People who sail on the western coast of Istria are not only here for sailing but surely
for the lively bustling marinas in the patriarchal cities Rovinj, Porec or Vrsar, all situated
on the Mediterranean. Rovinj for example is said to be the St. Tropez of Croatia. And rightly
so.
Visible form far away the church sits high above the ancient facades and guides the sailors
into the town port, as seen so often in the Mediterranean. Mooring for a short stop is free on
the customs quay; if you want to stay longer, visit the marina or the nice anchorage south east
of there.
Busy activity pulses through the old and narrow alleys of the town, typical for the
Mediterranean. On the market merchants vociferously praise their fruits and vegetables.
No question that there is a special atmosphere between the colorful facades: A hint of Italy
mixed with faded memories of the heyday of the austrian monarchy in the Mediterranean.
